A multi-reception apparatus 2 includes a set of wireless receivers 13-18. Each of the receivers is connected to at least one other receiver by a first point-to-point communication interface 50a-50e. Those receivers (14, 16, 18) which also have a second point-to-point communication interface 60a-60c with a multi-reception controller 19 are known as main receivers. When a data packet is broadcast from a mobile source each of the receivers receives a copy of the data packet. A subset of the receivers are selected to forward their copy of the data packet to the multi-reception controller. The copies of the data packet are forwarded via at least one, but preferably multiple, main receivers. The multi-reception controller includes a multi-reception decoder, which reconstructs the broadcast data packet using the copies it receives from the receivers in the subset. Receiver selection may be made on the basis of a quality metric. The number of input interfaces 60a-60c to the multi-reception controller/decoder is less than the number of receivers. |
