The present invention relates to a pourable shortening composition comprising a salt and a citric acid ester of a partial fatty acid glyceride, wherein the ester is present in an amount of from 0.1 to 1 percent by weight based on the total weight of the shortening composition and the salt is present in an amount of from 0.1 to 3 percent by weight based on the total weight of the shortening composition. The invention also relates to the use of a combination of a citric acid ester of partial fatty acid glycerides, and a salt to reduce secondary spattering of the above-described pourable shortening composition.
