541,606. Parachute apparatus. PIONEER PARACHUTE CO., Inc. Sept. 6, 1940, No. 13940. Convention date, Sept. 6, 1939. [Class 4] A pilot parachute, adapted to be placed with the main parachute within a pack, has a rigid frame for maintaining the central portion of its canopy extended at all times. As shown the central portion of the pilot parachute canopy is supported by a rigid frame 4, and auxiliary frames 8, 12, urged in opposite directions by coiled springs at the corners of the frame assist the opening of the canopy. These frames 8, 12 are folded respectively above and beneath the canopy before the pilot parachute is laid on the main parachute and covered with the flaps of the pack. When the flaps are released, the upper frames 8 assist the opening of the flaps and the lower frames 12 project the pilot parachute clear of the pack. |
