摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analysis apparatus and an analysis method for detecting an increase position of birefringence in an optical fiber with a simple structure in a short period of time.SOLUTION: In an apparatus for analyzing an optical fiber, a light source 2 and a polarization controller 3 generate a plurality of polarized pulses which have the same peak wavelength and different polarization states from each other. A polarization analyzer 5 receives back-scattered light generated by transmitting each of the plurality of the polarized pulses through an optical fiber 1, and calculates a polarization degree. A signal processing section 6 calculates distribution in a longitudinal direction of the optical fiber 1 of the polarization degree for each polarization state using the polarization degree calculated by the polarization analyzer 5. The signal processing section 6 detects a peak of a difference between the maximum value and the minimum value of the polarization degree from the distribution, or detects the peak of the polarization degree and thereby detects an increase position of birefringence in the optical fiber 1.
