Systems, a method and an application programming interface (API) are provided for transferring funds. A system comprises a digital currency manager 20 which receives a request to transfer an amount of funds to a recipient user of a mobile telephone based money transfer system 50, and receives digital currency corresponding to the request. An API for the digital currency manager issues a request to make a payment for the amount from an account in the mobile telephone based money transfer system 50 to the recipient user. A mobile telephone based money transfer system 50 is receives the issued API request and makes the payment to the recipient user. The mobile telephone based money transfer system 50 includes an API gateway 140 to receive an API request and an unstructured supplementary services data USSD gateway. |
