The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for deriving a texture stationarity confidence score between a selected point within a first image field and a selected point within a second image field. The method comprises calculating a centred absolute difference value between the selected point within the first image field and the selected point within the second image field for at least one image parameter, calculating offset absolute difference values corresponding to at least a first axis, calculating relative difference values corresponding to the at least first axis, and deriving a texture stationarity confidence score between the selected point within the first image field and the selected point within the second image field based at least partly on the relative difference values corresponding to the at least first axis. Confidence score may then used to determine whether a selected point in the first image field remains stationary within a second field, to select an optimum motion vector for a selected point between first image field and second image field or used in a de-interlacing process that is adapted to take advantage of identified stationary areas within the image fields. |
