A vacuum insulation panel comprising a porous insulating core 3 having an upper surface 301 and a lower surface 302 and sides 303a-d; an envelope 2 arranged to envelop the core 3 and to maintain an applied vacuum; at least one metal foil 4 with a thickness of at least 4 microns between the envelope 2 and the core 3, extending substantially across the entire upper 301 or lower 302 surface of the core 3 and not forming a thermal bridge between the upper 301 and lower 302 surfaces. The metal foil 4 may be attached to the inside of the envelope 2 which may be by heat sealing an outer layer provided on the foil, which may comprise polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl alcohol or copolymers thereof, to an inner layer provided on the envelope which may comprise, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene vinyl alcohol, polyvinylidene chloride, thermoplastic urethanes or combinations thereof. The foil and the envelope may be attached after vacuum has been applied to the panel. Also included are claims for; a process for manufacturing a vacuum insulation panel, an envelope for a vacuum insulation panel and the use of a sheet of material and a separate metal foil to form an envelope. |
