542,753. Bearings. BRITISH TIMKEN, Ltd., and RUDD, R. F. March 28, 1941, No. 4203. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] An axle-box bearing with two axially spaced sets of rollers 8, 13 running on a race or races pressed onto the axle has an annular protuberance between the roller sets which is formed on the race or an interposed member and projects beyond the outermost part of the outer race when disassembled, so that the axle end can be gripped in a lathe chuck after the casing but not the inner races have been removed. The rollers are conical and of equal or unequal diameters and the outside race may have a lip to prevent removal of the rollers. Fig. 2 shows an outside race 12 with an interposed member 16 pressed onto the axle 1 and gripped in a chuck 17. A cover 19 is temporarily secured by L-bolts 21 to prevent entry of dirt to the rollers 8. A protuberance 23, Fig. 6, may be formed on a single race 22 so as to project beyond the outermost part of rollers 13. |
