543,462. Nut food preparations. FAIRRIE, J. L. June 19,1940, Nos. 10596/40 and 7051/41. [Class 49] A foodstuff is prepared by incorporating comminuted peanuts with a starch-containing cereal and performing at least the final comminution of the peanuts in the presence of the cereal. The cereal absorbs oil from the peanut material and is preferably present in major amount. The peanuts may be first skinned and coarsely divided and then finely comminuted in admixture with ground rolled oats. Materials such as treacle, molasses, or the like, mineral salts, vitamins A and D, yeast or yeast extract, skimmed milk or other animal product in powder form and flavourings, such as ground celery seed, may be added in small quantities. The mass may be stirred and heated to about 85‹C. to effect some gelatinisation of the starch; the product as a finely divided powder may serve for the preparation of soup or it may be compressed into cobs e.g. in the machine described in Specification 457,444, [Group V], fairly large particles of peanut being then included to give "bite" when the foodstuff is being eaten. |
