A pyrolysis or gasification apparatus has a heating system adapted to heat a first gas enclosure, wherein a gas path within the heated enclosure is helical or spherical. The gas enclosure may be a tube with a spiral insert, a frustoconical shell having a gas input pipe connected thereto, a coiled tube or other arrangements. The gas enclosure may also be such that the gaseous mixture travels around an axis of the gas enclosure. Pyrolysis is used to destroy oils, tars and/or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a gaseous mixture. |
