Gasolene or other motor fuel contains 2 or more anti-detonants so selected as to their B.P. and added in such proportions that the various fuel fractions obtained on vaporization have substantially the same octane number. Antidetonants specified are aryl compounds and metallo-alkyls, e.g. methyl, ethyl, propyl, and mixed alkyl compounds of lead, tin, bismuth, antimony, arsenic, thallium, selenium, and tellerium; especially useful are lead tetramethyl, trimethyl - ethyl, dimethyl - diethyl, methyl - triethyl, tetraethyl, dimethyl - dissopropyl, diethyl-diisopropyl, and tetra-isopropyl. The halo- or hydroxy-alkyls may be used. In examples, gasolene is doped with 1-3 cc. per gallon of one of the following mixtures: (1) tetramethyl and tetraethyl lead; (2) tetraethyl, dimethyl - diethyl, and trimethyl - ethyl lead; (3) tetramethyl, dimethyl-diethyl, and monomethyl-triethyl lead. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also an anti-detonant comprising 2 or more metallo-organic agents, e.g. lead alkyls, of different volatility, and its addition to motor fuels having fractions of different B.P.; a specified fuel is a mixture of cracked and uncracked gasolene. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
