A measurement system 12 for measuring a volume of a lubricant present in a bearing arrangement 10 is provided. The system 12 comprises a pressure regulator (25 in Figure 2) to be connected to an interior 18 of the bearing arrangement 10 via a channel (30 in Figure 2). A buffer (40 in Figure 2) is arranged between the pressure regulator 25 and the bearing arrangement 10. A controller (26 in Figure 2) of the measurement system 12 is arranged to control the regulator 25 and valves (31, 33 in Figure 2) so as to first fill the buffer 40 with pressurized gas and then release the gas from the buffer 40 into the interior 18 of the bearing arrangement 10. A free volume (V2 in Figure 3) in the interior 18 is determined using the volume (V1 in Figure 3) of the buffer 40, the pressure (p1 in Figure 3) in the buffer 40 and the pressure (p2 in Figure 3) in the interior 18. Finally, the volume of the lubricant is determined using the free volume V2 in the interior 18 and an empty volume of the interior 18. |
