POWER SUPPLY DEVICE FOR DRIVING LASER DIODES

A power supply device for driving laser diodes that is provided with a power supply for supplying electric power to a laser oscillator that includes a laser diode, wherein the power supply device is provided with: a reactor having one end serially connected to the laser oscillator and the other end serially connected to the power supply; a parallel diode that forms part of a closed circuit relative to the serial connection between the laser oscillator and the reactor; an electric current detection means for detecting the electric current flowing through the reactor; a first switching element connected in parallel to the laser oscillator, the first switching element pulse-driving the laser oscillator; and an energy-consuming means for consuming the energy of the reactor. On the basis of a control signal from the control device, the energy-consuming means prefetches the electric current command value during pulse driving for the laser oscillator, and consumes energy until a predetermined desired electric current value is reached when the electric current command value is less than the preceding pulse.
