The present invention refers to a machine (1) for preparing beverages, such as for example an espresso type coffee machine, adapted for use of portion packages (2) containing at least one respective aromatic substance. Said beverage preparation machine (1) presents a particularly compact configuration and distinguishes itself for including a collection container (43) for collection of said portion packages (2) after their processing, and provided so as to maximize the collection capacity in relation to volume.
