Method and apparatus for generating synthesised images where an input image is received s402 and a set of sample blocks are defined s404 from the input image. An index table (800, figure 8) is obtained s412 which includes indications of the tiles to be positioned in a synthesis arrangement and the synthesised image is created s414 by positioning the patches in the synthesis arrangement according to the table. The index table may be determined from a match table (700, figure 7) which for each combination of n blocks provides an indication of a matching block. Also claimed is a method for image synthesis using such a match table. The methods may comprise determining cuts within overlapping regions of sample blocks. The method may be used to generate images which are much larger than the input image for example it may be used to generate large textures from small input textures. |
