PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power generation unit capable of generating power as needed and improving durability.SOLUTION: An external force is stored in a power storage device 90 as mechanical energy. In a power generation element 10, one axial end side of a first rod 11 formed from a magnetostrictive material is defined as a fixed end and a coil 13 is wound. By releasing the energy stored in the power storage device 90, the first rod 11 is vibrated by an interference part 53 which interferes with another axial end side of the first rod 11. By axially expanding or shrinking the first rod 11, power is generated by inverse magnetostrictive effects. By releasing energy as needed, power can be generated as needed. The power storage device 90 can be made unlikely to incur aged deterioration in comparison with a storage battery for storing electric energy, thereby improving durability. |
