A gesture detection sensor is disclosed, suitable for operating a vehicle window by means of input command gestures. The method of operation includes detecting 910 the presence of a body part, such as a hand, with a first sensor; storing 915 a reference time value of this detection; detecting 920 the presence of a body part with a second sensor; storing 925 a further time value for this detection; and comparing 930 the reference time value and the further time value to provide a difference value. The difference value is used to determine 935 a valid occurrence of an input command gesture, leading to operation 940 of a device, such as a window actuator. The gesture detection sensor may include two sensors where a detection range (204, fig.2) of one sensor completely overlaps, curtains or encompasses that of another sensor (202, fig.2). |
