摘要 547,792. Conveyers. MULLER & CIE. MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI AKT.-GES. A. Dec. 28, 1939, Nos. 32985; (Convention date, Jan. 3), 32986 and 32987 (Convention date, Nov. 3). [Class 78 (i)] Conveying and pressing-apparatus for feeding wood-working machines, for example in the making of veneers, comprises two superposed conveying beds each consisting of a number of parallel reciprocating bars operated in groups to grip and press the articles on the forward stroke and release them during the return stroke. The groups of bars are operated in sequence so that a number are constantly at various points on their forward stroke, thus maintaining the pressure on the articles as a whole while other bars are on the return stroke. As illustrated, hollow-heated upper and lower bars 15, 4 respectively are reciprocated by cams 39 on shafts 37 engaging levers 41 pivoted at 42 and slidably guided between rollers 43 on the bars. The cams are set to produce reciprocations of the various bars in sequence in timed relation, the arrangement being such that not more than two bars of each bed are on the return stroke at any one time. Working in timed relation with this reciprocation is mechanism for raising and lowering the bars to apply and release the grip on the goods carried between them. Each roller 5 supporting a bar 4 is carried by a rod 7 connected to an eccentric disc 8 loosely mounted on a cross shaft 9. The discs 8 are operated through links 11 from members 12 reciprocated by cams 52. The movement of a member 12 to the left causes all the rollers underneath one bar to be drawn downwards against the action of the springs 14, thus relieving the articles from pressure along this line. The upper rollers 16 and bars 15 are set initially in accordance with the thickness of material treated by.screw- and-nut gear operated by four inter-connected sets of bevel gear 24, but do not move in this direction during the passage of the material. The pressure is applied to the goods during the movement of the bars in the feeding direction and relieved during their return strokes. Fig. 5 shows in a modification a shaft 72 fitted with two sets of levers 98, 99 operated by cams 76, 77 against the action of springs 100. These levers each reciprocate one set of top and bottom bars in unison so that they move in the bearings 92, 94. The latter are spaced adjustably by shafts 80 having oppositely-threaded screws at the ends. Projections 110, 111 on the moving bar structures contact levers 112 on the spindles 80 so that the latter are rotated to cause the bars to approach one another and so grip the articles on the forward stroke and to release them again on the return stroke. In a further modification the bars are moved in one direction by frictional engagement with the surface of cylinders 192 until flats 195 on the cylinders allow the bars to slip back under the action of return springs. The flats may be spirally arranged on the cylinders as shown or on straight lines parallel to the axis. The cylinders are driven by bevel gear and are supported by pairs of rollers mounted on bearings in the lower fixed and upper pressureapplying parts of the frame. As open to inspection under Sect. 91 a further modification was described in which the bars were reciprocated by links from opposed cranks on a shaft and were raised and lowered by inclined supporting links. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
