The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a glass substrate capable of suppressing a deformation of the glass substrate by controlling viscosity in both side parts and a center area of the glass substrate. The present invention relates to a method and a device for manufacturing a glass substrate. The method for manufacturing the glass substrate comprises the following steps: molding a molten glass as a sheet glass by overflowing the molten glass from a molded body; and cooling by stretching the sheet glass in a flowing direction, according to a down draw method. After the sheet glass is spaced apart from the molded body, when the temperature of the sheet glass is in the range, which is higher than a softening point to a near annealing point, the difference in viscosity of the side part and the center area interposed between the side parts is cooled down to less than a reference value by applying a tension toward the side part of a widthwise direction of the sheet glass. |
