PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent means for detecting a length in a conveyance direction of a sheet from incorrectly detecting the length of the sheet when parts of the sheets are overlapped with each other and conveyed together, in a machine that detects a length in a conveyance direction of a sheet conveyed by the machine, and when the length does not coincide with the settings of the machine, notifies a user of the effect.SOLUTION: With a length in a paper feeding direction of set sheets assumed as A, and a length detected by sheet length detection means for detecting a length in a conveyance direction of a sheet assumed as B, both lengths are compared by a control unit 102 of a machine. When |A-B| is smaller than a predetermined value, the machine determines that the size of the set sheets is appropriate, and performs image formation; when |A-B| is larger than the predetermined value and A>B, determines that the size of the set sheets is inappropriate, and notifies a user of the effect; and when |A-B| is larger than the predetermined value and A<B, and the state of A<B is continuously detected predetermined times or more, determines that the size of the set sheets is inappropriate, and notifies the user of the effect. |
