PURPOSE:To obtain the title copolymer of a low content of ionic impurities by polymerizing an alkali thiolate-terminated prepolymer with a dihaloaromatic compound. CONSTITUTION:The purpose copolymer is obtained by polymerizing a prepolymer containing an alkali thiolate group at at least one end and obtained by depolymerizing a polyarylene thioether comprising repeating units of formula I by treatment with an alkali metal sulfide in a polar organic solvent with a dihaloaromatic compound of formula II and optionally an alkali metal sulfide in a polar organic solvent. In the formulas, R is 1-6 C alkyl; k is 0 or 1-4; m is 0 or 1-100; and X is halogen. |
