Method of making lithium difluoro (oxalato) borate Li [BF2C2O4], optionally in mixture with lithium tetrafluoroborate, comprising at least steps (S) and (T1) or (T2): (S) mixing lithium oxalate and boron trifluoride in the form of a complex with an ether in an organic solvent; (T1) heating the mixture obtained in step (S); or (T2) heating the mixture obtained in step (S) under a pressure above atmos-pheric pressure; wherein the reaction is carried out in the absence of a chloride-containing compound.
