Provided is a composition for an electrode mixture layer of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, said composition containing an active material, water, and a binder. The binder includes: a crosslinked polymer of a monomer component containing an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer; and a salt of the crosslinked polymer. The viscosity of a 0.5 wt% aqueous dispersion of the crosslinked polymer at a neutralization degree of 90 mol% is 5,000-40,000 mPa∙s. The content of the crosslinked polymer and the salt thereof is 0.5-5.0 wt% relative to the active material.
