[Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Flexible adhesive material comprises a flexible porous backing, an adherent continuous barrier film produced by vulcanizing a compounded aqueous dispersion of rubber, e.g. latex and a coating thereover of a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The backing may be of close or open weave fabric, and which may be bias-cut, asbestos stock, paper, felt or cotton flock compressed and reinforced by crossing lines of adhesive cork on latex. The rubber dispersion is of such a nature that no penetration of the backing occurs. It may be applied as a pre-formed film or by spreading in liquid form. A suitable composition comprises rubber latex, Karaya gum, kaolin or china clay, zinc oxide, sulphur, butyl zincate, caustic soda, casein, a dispersing agent and water. Surgical bandage dressings may be formed by applying a soft pad 17 to the adhesive mass 16 on a fabric 14 provided with a barrier film 15.
