This master cylinder has: an engagement member with which an end of a piston spring is engaged; and a rod-like member (82) having one end which is in contact with the engagement member and the other end which is affixed to a piston (11). The other end of the rod-like member (82) has formed thereon: a male thread section (154) engaged through threads with a female thread section (144) formed on the piston (11); an annular groove section (153) formed closer to said one end than the male thread section (154); and a rod-like section (152) formed closer to said one end than the annular groove section (153). The front end-side end (168) of the rod-like member (82) is disposed within the female thread section (144) and is affixed to the piston (11).
