PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge light type panel unit capable of increasing heat radiation efficiency of an LED and achieving high luminance and high reliability, and a liquid crystal display device including the panel unit.SOLUTION: The edge light type panel unit of the present invention includes a liquid crystal panel 12, a light guide plate 16 disposed on a back face of the liquid crystal panel, an LED bar 40 having a plurality of LED modules 30 including a light-emitting diode 32 mounted on one surface of the bar, which is disposed to allow the light-emitting diode to face an end face of the light guide plate, a heat radiation plate 50 disposed to be in contact with the other surface of the LED bar so as to conduct heat, and a back chassis 23 made of metal and covering the back face of the light guide plate. The heat radiation plate and the back chassis are thermally connected by a plurality of heat pipes 60 sealing a work fluid inside a container 62. In the plurality of heat pipes, 8 to 18% of the total surface area of each container is thermally in contact with the back chassis.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
