A multicore optical fiber 1 is provided with a plurality of cores 11 - 16 and cladding 20 surrounding the outer peripheral surface of each of the cores. The skew value for a pair of cores out of the plurality of cores in the multicore optical fiber 1 is given by a prescribed formula. The multicore optical fiber 1 can be bent in a specific bending direction in which, of all the combination of pairs of cores from the plurality of cores, the skew value for the one pair of cores for which the absolute value of the skew value found by that formula is the highest, becomes the smallest. |
