[Problem] To provide a network system, a node device, a control device, a communication control method, and a control method with which physical layer device control required for flow control can be easily implemented. [Solution] A communication system is provided with a plurality of nodes which form a network, and a control device which uses flow units to control each of the nodes. At least one communication interface is provided to each port of the nodes. The control device instructs the nodes to set the physical layer modes of the ports, and furthermore manages the link state for each transmission direction of links between adjacent nodes. The nodes set corresponding communication interfaces in accordance with the physical layer modes of the ports in each transmission direction, said physical layer modes being those for which instructions were issued by the control device.
