[Class 144 (i)] Heat insulating material 4 is located between the body 1 of a brake wheel and a separately formed tyre retaining flange 3 secured to the body. The invention is applicable especially to aircraft wheels in. which the body is a hub shell having internal brake recesses 2. The material 4 may be secured by plates 5 shaped to engage bevelled notches in the edges of the material and secured to the body by screws 5a, or the material may be in segments secured directly by screws. The tyre flange may be retained by a split spring ring 7 with a collar, as described in Specification 539,905. In hub shells having a brake drum at each end the material may extend along the body as shown at 9, the middle part of the body being of reduced diameter to provide an .insulating air space 11.
