PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress an image without incurring degradation in image quality, even when pixels which cause tone reduction to occur over a plurality of regions have a specific arrangement pattern or when colors for which tone reduction occurs are limited to a specific color.SOLUTION: A data processing method according to the present invention includes: a step (a) in which representative color information which is the color information on colors representative among pixel colors in a region is extracted from the image data of the pixels; a step (b) in which position information on pixels whose extracted representative color information is not included as color information in the image data is extracted from the image data of the pixels; a step (c) in which color information is extracted from the image data of the pixels corresponding to the extracted position information; a step (d) in which the extracted color information is replaced with the representative color information extracted in step (a), and the representative color information is converted to corresponding code data before the image data is compressed; and a step (e) in which the picture quality of the image corresponding to the image data compressed in step (d) is evaluated with respect to the plurality of regions on the basis of the extracted position information and color information. |
