[Class 80 (ii)] Relates to servomotor control mechanism of the kind wherein a manual force-transmitting connection embodies lost motion, the taking up of which brings into action a servomotor to assist the movement of the device operated. According to the invention the servomotor acts to stress a resilient element the force of which is sufficient to balance a substantial proportion of the resistance of the device operated. As shown, appied to friction clutch control mechanism, a lever 22 is linked to the clutch pressure plate 11 and is normally held by a spring 24 against a stop 23 when the clutch 10 is engaged. A pedal pad 42 is carried by the lever 22 with slight lost motion and is connected-by a Bowden cable 45 to a valve plunger 34 controlling the supply of pressure or vacuum to a servomotor 25. The piston 26 of the servomotor is connected to the clutch 22 through a spring 28 which is unstressed when the clutch 10 is engaged. To declutch, pressure is applied to the pad 42 and the lost motion is taken up. This causes movement of the valve plunger 34 so that the servomotor 25 is energized and the piston 26 makes a stroke thus stressing the spring 28. Further depression of the pedal 42 will then cause movement of the lever 22 to declutch. An electric solenoid device may replace the fluid pressure servomotor. |
