Provided is a method for producing a chloroalkylsulfonyl chloride, by which a high-purity chloroalkylsulfonyl chloride can be obtained with high yield with high productivity. This method for producing a chloroalkylsulfonyl chloride is a method for obtaining a chloroalkylsulfonyl chloride by reacting a hydroxyalkyl sulfonic acid salt with a chlorinating agent. In the method, the reaction is carried out in a substituted benzene solvent that is represented by formula (3). (In formula (3), m represents an integer of 1-3, and when m is 2 or more, the plurality of the R moieties may be the same as or different from each other; and the R moiety(ies) represent one or more polar groups that are selected from among a halogen atom, an -NO2 group, a -CN group, a -C(=O)R1 group and a -C(=O)OR1 group.
