PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solenoid valve and a shock absorber, capable of actively performing adjustment of a damping force while expressing stable damping force.SOLUTION: A solenoid valve 1 includes a housing 6 having a hollow part 6a and a port 6b to be opened from the outside and communicating to the hollow part 6a; a spool valve 7 slidably inserted in an axial direction into the hollow part 6a, and a solenoid 8 for driving the spool valve 7 in the axial direction. In the solenoid valve, the spool valve 7 and a movable iron core 22 to be united to the spool valve are both formed to be cylindrical. The outer diameter of the movable iron core 22 is made to be greater than the outer diameter of the spool valve 7, and a room A at the spool side and a room B at the spool opposite side which are sectioned with the movable iron core 22 at both sides in the axial direction of the movable iron core 22 in a stator S. |
