[Class 108 (i)] [Also in Groups X, XIV and XXXIII] Sliding pairs for sliding roofs of vehicles, comprise a rail having a base 1 secured to a support 1a and a wall 2 turned upwards and bent over at 3, 4 to form an arcurate or angular portion which supports by line contact an arcuate portion 7, 8 of a complementary slide secured by a flat part 5 to a slidable member 5a. The curved parts 3, 4 thus form a run-way for the complementary slide, and, if the slide is curved either to the right or left, the inclined parts 8 or 7 ride up the external convex surface of the bend between the parts 3 or 4 taking up play and preventing rattle. If the slide pair is subjected to tensional strain, the edge of the part 4 contacts with the inner surface of the horizontal part 10 of the slide. Fig. 5 shows a double contact slide pair for heavy work so constructed that in compression the external convex surface for the slide 24, while the convex surface of bend between the parts 25, 26 slides with line contact on the base 21 secured to the stationary member. If it is not necessary that the slide and rail should be capable of relative orientation, use may be made of a double edge engagement slide pair as shown in Fig. 8, the base 1 having a wall 2 at each of its longitudinal edges with angular parts 3, 4 which support the complementary parts 7, 8 secured to the slidable member 5a. |
