PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device with which it is possible to appropriately evaluate the characteristic of an optical fiber used as an optical transmission path for measurement devices.SOLUTION: Excitation light is introduced from one end of an optical fiber F to be evaluated, and, after the excitation light is removed from light emitted from one end or the other end of the optical fiber F by a filter 123, the intensity of the light having passed through the filter 123 is measured. This makes it possible to measure fluorescence occurring inside the optical fiber F due to the irradiation of the excitation light, so that it is possible, for example, to grasp a background fluorescence when the optical fiber F is used as a probe for a fluorescence measurement device, or to select an optical fiber F from among multiple kinds of optical fibers F that does not generate a self-fluorescence of a wavelength near the fluorescence to be measured by the fluorescence measurement device and use it as the probe for the fluorescence measurement device.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
