PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a positive electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which enables the materialization of a high initial discharge capacity and a high capacity-keeping rate; and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery arranged by use of such a positive electrode.SOLUTION: A positive electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to the present invention comprises: a positive electrode active material; and a conductive assistant. The positive electrode active material includes a solid solution of lithium-containing transition metal oxide expressed by the following chemical formula: Li[NiCoMn[Li]]O(where Li represents lithium, Ni represents nickel, Co represents cobalt, Mn represents manganese, O represents oxygen, a, b, c and d satisfy the expressions, 0<a<1.4, 0≤b<1.4, 0<c<1.4, 0.1<d≤0.4, a+b+c+d=1.5, and 1.1≤a+b+c<1.4).
