PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide oil pump structure capable of shortening an excess oil circulation passage to reduce oil flow resistance, contriving miniaturization, weight reduction, and higher efficiency of an oil pump, and reducing costs by reducing the number of components, and a method for assembling a relief valve mechanism to the oil pump.SOLUTION: In structure of an oil pump 18 having a built-in relief valve mechanism 35 for communicating an oil delivery passage 32 of an oil pump 18 to an oil suction passage 30 to return oil, the relief valve mechanism 35 is arranged in parallel with one side in a width direction of a pump rotor 33 of the oil pump 18, in the relief valve mechanism 35, the oil delivery passage 32, the oil suction passage 30, and an excess oil circulation passage 40 reaching from an excess oil inlet 41 to an excess oil outlet 42 of a cylindrical relief valve body 36 on the same common plane, and the relief valve mechanism 35 is arranged so as to be inserted from the oil delivery passage 32 into the oil suction passage from an opening 32a in a cross direction orthogonal to a pump drive shaft of the oil pump 18 and on a downstream of the oil delivery passage 32. |
