摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool whose hard coated layer exerts excellent chipping resistance and abrasion resistance in high-speed intermittent cutting work.SOLUTION: In a surface coated cutting tool consisting of a Ti compound layer and an α type AlOlayer formed by coating on the surface of a substrate, the inclination angle of the normal line of the (0001) plane of the α type AlOlayer crystal grains to the normal line of the surface of the substrate is measured in the range of 0-90 degrees; the measured inclination angles are divided by the 0.25-degree pitch; and the frequencies of the inclination angles present in individual divisions are totalled to obtain an inclination angle frequency distribution. In the inclination angle frequency distribution, there are present the maximum peak I1, the second peak I2 and the third peak I3, with I1>I2>I3 and an I3/I1 ratio of 0.6 or higher. The inclination angle divisions containing the peaks are 1-11 degree, 40-50 degree and 65-75 degree, respectively, and their frequency ratios in the individual inclination angle division are 15% or higher of the total of the frequencies.
