摘要 The present invention relates to an optical device including a light modulation device, and a method for driving the same and, more particularly, to an optical device including a light modulation device including liquid crystals and a method for driving the same. The optical device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a display panel that displays an image; a phase delay plate that is located on the display panel; a first plate and a second plate that are located on the phase delay plate, face each other, and include a plurality of unit areas; and a liquid crystal layer that is located between the first plate and the second plate, and includes a plurality of liquid crystal molecules, wherein the first plate includes a first aligner and a plurality of lower plate electrodes extending in a first direction and arranged in a second direction crossing the first direction, the second plate includes a second aligner and an upper plate electrode, an orientation direction of the first aligner and an orientation direction of the second aligner are substantially parallel to each other, and the light modulation device applies a first driving signal to the plurality of lower plate electrodes when the display panel displays a first image during a first sub-frame, and applies a second driving signal different from the first driving signal to the plurality of lower plate electrode when the display panel displays a second image during a second sub-frame continuing from the first sub-frame. The light modulation device including liquid crystals according to an embodiment of the present invention may modulate an optical phase by easily adjusting on-plane rotation angles of liquid crystal molecules.
