Object detection and characterization techniques are described. In one or more implementations, capacitance changes are detected by one or more of a plurality of capacitive sensors of a computing device. A material composition or movement of an object in relation to the computing device is determined that caused the capacitance changes detected by the one or more capacitive sensors. Operation of a radio device is managed such that an amount of energy emitted by the radio device is based at least in part on the determination.
