[Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] In a fluorescent paint or varnish, highly purified anthracene is used as the sole fluorescent ingredient, suitably in a proportion of 3-12 per cent. by weight of the paint or varnish. In an example, half-second nitrocotton and butyl alcohol are mixed with xylol and turpentine, and the mono-ethyl and mono butyl ethers of ethylene glycol are added, followed by ester gum and crushed dewaxed damar gum. Finally, anthracene finely ground in dibutyl phthalate is added, with nitro cellulose solvents if necessary, and the whole is further mixed.
