A composite fan blade (32) having an airfoil (36) with a leading edge (38) and a trailing edge (40) and a dovetail root (44) includes a first pressure face (50) and second pressure face (50), a lower horizontal face (54) connecting the pressure faces at the bottom of the dovetail and a first and a second dovetail runout fillet (52) connecting the pressure faces to the airfoil. The pressure faces are each angled outward at about 65 degrees to about 75 degrees from horizontal.
