A conveyor 10; an accumulator 20 movable in the same direction as the conveyor; two robots to move items P from the conveyor to the accumulator, one 40 downstream of the other 30; a control unit to cause the downstream robot to transfer a reducing number of articles per article transferred by the upstream robot after start up. Ideally the first group on the accumulator is mostly created by the downstream robot while subsequent groups are created by equal contributions from both robots. Preferably the first robot allows multiple consecutive articles to pass before the first group has been formed. |
