PURPOSE:To obtain in high selectivity the title compound useful as a raw material for epichlorohydrin or an intermediate for synthesizing various organic compounds by oxychlorination of propylene in the presence of a tellurium-contg. alloy catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Reaction is made at 100-350 deg.C between propylene, hydrogen chloride and oxygen pref. in a gaseous phase using a catalyst containing an allay made up of tellurium and group VIII (e.g. Fe), group Va (e.g. Sb) and/or group Ib (e.g. Cu) metal(s) carried on a carrier, thus affording the objective allyl chloride. The allay may be incorporated with an alkali metal compound. Use of the above catalyst will enable the oxychlorination at lower temperatures and result in no accumulation of carbon scale in the reaction system. For the oxychlorination, hydrogen chloride can be used rather than chlorine. |
