Accordingly, the present invention relates to the method of controlling a terminal providing a pedometer function, comprising: a step of generating a one-dimensional sequence with respect to an acceleration in the direction of gravity using information collected from at least one sensor; a step of searching at least one maximum-minimum peak inside the one-dimensional sequence; a step of determining the number of walking steps of the user based on a number of the maximum-minimum peaks; and a step of outputting determined number of walking steps of the user.
