Sensor 3a, fitted to a wheel of landing gear 2, communicates tyre pressure wirelessly to a handheld reader device 11, which displays a warning if the pressure is below a reference value. Sensor 3a may also sense inflation gas temperature, and store tyre and aircraft identifiers and reference pressure. Reader 11 may store aircraft identifiers and reference pressures associated with tyre identifiers in memory (22, Fig. 4): an aircraft identifier may be obtained from sensor 3a, from manual input, or via a camera; a tyre identifier may be obtained from sensor 3a. Processor (23, Fig. 4) of reader 11 may adjust pressure for gas and ambient temperatures before comparing to a reference value and displaying on display (21, Fig. 4). Ground crew may use reader 11 with a plurality of tyres of an aircraft, and with a plurality of aircraft which may be of different types. |
