The present invention relates to a method for generating a pseudo-random number and an apparatus for the same. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the method for generating the pseudo-random number includes the steps of: creating a non-linear look-up table for non-linear transformation; creating a reversible matrix for reversible linear transformation; calculating an intermediate result value by performing some rounds according to an advanced encryption standard (AES) encryption algorithm; performing non-linear transformation for the result value using the non-linear look-up table; and creating the pseudo-random number by performing the reversible-linear transformation for the non-linear transformed value using the reversible matrix. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the linear-transformation is applied to the AES round intermediate value based on the non-linear transformation and the reversible matrix, so that the rate of creating the pseudo-random number can be increased.
