PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To favorably discern whether a colliding body with a vehicle is a pedestrian or a non-pedestrian object.SOLUTION: A front bumper 12 with a collision determination system 10 has a deformation suppression part 26 which is disposed on an upper wall 18 of a chamber member 16 integrally therewith and suppresses buckling deformation of the upper wall 18 against loads applied in a longitudinal vehicle direction. In a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle, the whole of the chamber member 16 is deformed in such a way that a front wall 20 and a lower wall 22 are folded. In a collision between a colliding body other than a pedestrian and the vehicle on the other hand, the upper wall 18 and lower wall 22 of the chamber member 16 will undergo buckling deformation, but the deformation suppression part 26 suppresses the buckling deformation of the upper wall 18. As a result, an amount of deformation of the chamber member 16 can be suppressed to a smaller level compared with a case in which the deformation suppression part 26 is omitted from the upper wall 18. Consequently, the difference of the amount of deformation of the chamber member 16 between a collision between a pedestrian and the vehicle, and a collision between a colliding body other than a pedestrian and the vehicle becomes significant, thereby making it possible to favorably discriminate a colliding body with the vehicle. |
