The present invention is concerned with synchronizing output and/or input activities at a plurality of slave nodes communicatively connected to a master node without a separate clock synchronization scheme. A method is proposed that allows a slave to evaluate how long ago a message of the master was produced without previous clock synchronization, based on a path delay difference experienced by two frames prepared concurrently by the master and sent over two distinct paths to the slave. This method applies to ring or loop networks, but can be extended to meshed network topologies with two distinct paths between master and slave, where a frame of interest sent over a first path returns back to the sender over a second path. |
