Disclosed are a device and a method to detect a multi-target in a non-uniform clutter environment by using modified repetitive pre-whitening projection statistics. The present invention comprises: a sample data PPS module calculating PPS data by repetitively performing pre-whitening projection statistics (PPS) algorithm for sample data; a covariance matrix update module classifying the PPS data, calculated by the repetition, into uniform PPS data and non-uniform PPS data by comparing the PPS data to a predetermined threshold value, and updating a covariance matrix by using the classified uniform PPS data; an entire data PPS module performing the PPS algorithm for the entire received data by using the updated covariance matrix; and a non-uniform data removal module removing the classified non-uniform PPS data after the PPS algorithm for the entire received data. According to the device and the method to detect a multi-target in a non-uniform clutter environment by using modified repetitive pre-whitening projection statistics, an error, caused by degradation when the covariance matrix is estimated, is prevented and high operational complexity is not required. Moreover, since excellent multi-target detection performance is indicated in various clutter environments, a target detection error, caused by a masking effect, is reduced. |
